Cayman Brac here we come!

Just a quick post from the Grand Cayman airport... just incase you forgot we are spending New Year's on Cayman Brac Island at the Brac Reef Resort. I'm stoked about our trip and therefore bragging. I'm sorry, I'm no longer humble, I've had one fruity rum drink and I'm lost my damn mind!!! C was smart and just had a beer while we wait for our connecting flight... No, not me... I blame it on my Irish heritage. I can usually hold my liquor but apparently not eating much all day and only getting 4 hours of sleep the night before makes me a light weight. I'll catch up with you all next year!

Love,

Merry Christmas!

I hope you all had an AMAZING Christmas!!

This Christmas was a lot of fun for me.  I, for the first time in my adult life have seen Christmas though a childs eyes.  I have three nieces, they are 17, 13 and 7 and it was great to see how each of them reacted to their presents.  By the time we were all done opening gifts there was a sea of wrapping paper, boxes and gift bags covering the living room floor.  My 7 year old niece then had to open every single new toy and try to play with all of them at once lol.  The 13 year old gave us a fashion show of all of her new clothes and the 17 year old went up into her room to txt her boyfriend, she finally came back a few hours later with one of her new books in hand.  Over all it was awesome to be able to spend Christmas with my family.

On a selfish note, I must brag about how awesome my husband is!! He actually got most all of the items on my wish list plus a few extras.  I was shocked at all of my Christmas gifts! The Hubs Rocks :-)

What were some of your favorite moments or gifts this year?

@ Noble

P.S. To all of the 1st responders and Service members: Thank You All for giving us safety & freedom, the best gifts of all!!

Twilight Much?

Sunday morning I was sipping my coffee, flipping though a magazines and cruising around on blogger when  I looked up at my TV and thought the color was going out on it.  We have some crazy HD/flat screen tv ( C picked it out and I don't know anything about it rather than how to turn it on).  We have only has this television for maybe 3 years so I didn't think the color would "break" on it this soon.  (side note, I don't even know technically if the color can fade or go out of a tv but for some reason I think it can lol)  I continued to watch the guy on Fox News in hopes it was something to do with their signal not broadcasting the colors correctly, then a new dude came on the screen and the color was fine... then it went back to the other guy and the color was jacked up again.  This when of for about 3 minutes or so, back & forth, back & forth, then finally both the guys were together on a split screen and it hit me... Holy Shiznit my tv is fine, that dude is just really really white... like translucent white... like Twilight white!!  Team Wallace or Team Ryan??

I wonder if he asked for Twilight makeup?

Chris Wallace Vs. Paul Ryan

This is pix is a bonus, just because I can lol

Are any of you into the Twilight series?  If so, did you read the books first or just watch the movies?  Which book/movie is your favorite?  And are you team Jacob or team Edward??

Burrr

I moved to the South for a reason... it's warmer.  I would have moved even further south but A. my husband is here and B. I still like to see a little bit of spring, fall and winter.  I'm am always cold!  I (literally) get chilly on a tropical island when I'm in the shade on a 110 degree day.  So, the recent cold snap in Memphis is just mean.  I thought the South and I had an understanding... apparently NOT!  What the crap is up with the talk of freezing rain/sleet tomorrow?!?  Nothing is supposed to be falling from the sky in a solid form or freezing to anything until at least January, and then it should be melting a few days later.  When I saw ICE on the sidewalk yesterday, I almost cried.   I'm from Michigan and know all about winter.  Growing up where I did, I have become an expert in all things winter.  Also, when my brother was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska, we went to visit him in the fracking winter time.  The high most days was -36 with a low of -52.  I threw coffee outside and watched it freeze before it hit the ground... It may not be that cold in Memphis right now, but yesterday sure felt like it.

My love for toe socks. . .

Transformed into shoes

These shoes are so comfortable!! I haven't worn them outside yet, because I want their inaugural usage to be in Cayman Brac.  I love these shoes so much, I think I might even buy another pair for casual wear.  Just incase somebody actually likes these shoes (which I'm pretty sure nobody does) you can find them HERE!

How many days until New Years?

This year I'm excited about Christmas but I'm more excited about New Years!  The reason for my uber excitement is that C and I will be sitting on an island south of Cuba sipping champagne while watching fireworks explode over the ocean at the strike of midnight!! We are going to the Cayman Islands and I'm totally stoked.  This is the first real trip C and I will be taking together.  We have been all over the United States together, but this is the first time we will use our passports together and even flying together (we love road trips).  I have been counting down ever since I purchased our airline tickets and now we are just 22 days away from our beach paradise (we are arriving on the 30th).  We are going to be staying at the Cayman Brac Reef Resort.  We chose Cayman Brac because of it's awesome scuba diving/snorkeling locations.  Also, this island is less commercial (read less expensive) than Grand Cayman.  There are tons of activities to do on the island and I can't wait to concur them all!

In my last post I mentioned I bought 2 pair of shoes... they were water shoes for this trip.  You must wear water shoes when out in the ocean because of all the hard coral.   C's shoes were easy to find, I pulled up a few pair online and he said "umm yea sure I like those..."  I was done shopping for him in under 10 min.  Now finding shoes for me is always a problem.  I don't know what the crap is wrong with me, most shoes just don't fit right.  My feet aren't weird or anything... they are both the same size (7.5) and all my toes are in the right place.  My mom always said it was b/c I had skinny chicken feet but I don't think that's it either lol.

Anyhow, before I show you a picture of my new shoes I must also explain my love for toe socks... I have been wearing them ever since I could put them on.  I have an obsession with them!  So when I found a shoe that also shared my love for toe socks I knew I must have them.

Nobody that I've showed these to have shared my love or even my like for them... but that's ok with me because I'm ok with being different!

Take away my AmEx... Please

Every year about this time I start to wonder if I have Agoraphobia...  My mother says my problem is just a lack of patience.  In my defense my "lack of patience" is a genetic trait passed down from my father.  I hate with a passion being out in a large crowd of rude, pushy, noisy & inconsiderate people (which pretty much sums up the entire city of Memphis).  Like every year prior I always give shopping at the mall a try.  This year one outing was all it took; the screaming children, incompetent sales people, and crowds sent me running back home after just visiting one store. Which brings me to the point of this post... I have been doing all of my Christmas shopping online.  I'm finding myself a little too comfortable in my ability to whip out my AmEx card whenever I see something I like.  Today while sipping my coffee in my jammies I managed to purchase 2 pair of shoes (1 for me and 1 for C) and 3 other presents for a grand total of TOO DAMN MUCH $$$$!! Somebody, send me to Betty Ford to cure my addiction of online shopping and also stores, stop making it so easy to buy things, stop suggestion other items I might like and please for the love of God please stop offering Free Shipping...

Online Shopping, I wish I knew how to quit you.

Favorite TV night of the Year!!

So, I'm semi obsess... ok, no, really obsessed with all things Victoria Secret.  I'm typically dressed head to toe in VS gear.  I'm not just talking about their fabulous bra's and underoos. I have their jeans, shirts, sweaters, dresses, work clothes, exercise clothes, sleep wear, shoes and well you all get the point but lets not forget about their body lotion, shower gel, makeup, hair products and all the rest of their wonderful items too.  Most days I'm a walking advertisement for them, now only if I could figure out a way to get paid or just become an actual VS Angel.

Tonight is the night that I wait for all year, The Victoria Secret Fashion Show!!  I have been watching this show since it first aired in back 1995... it sure has changed over they years but one thing always stays the same... I get to catch a glimpse of what's to come next year.

Tune into the VS Fashion show tonight on CBS at 10/9c

I'm back

Hello All!!

I know it has been forever since my last post, but I think now for the most part I will be able to get back to blogging as usual.

Here is an update on my life for the past 10 days:

My mom flew to Memphis from MI and we drove to Sedalia, MO where my brother and his family are stationed at.  We spent the night and got up at 5 am to drive (4.5 hours) to Omaha Nebraska Medical Center, where my brother was slated to have surgery on Nov. 12th.  Well... Brother's white blood count was too high due to an infection, so surgery was cancelled.  Mom and I drove back to Sedalia, MO that same day in the RAIN!! We stayed at Brother's house for a day and drove back to Memphis the next day.  BTW did I mention we didn't fly because the doctors gave us 3 days notice of his original surgery and tickets were over 900 dollars!  So Brother's surgery was rescheduled for 6:30 am on 22nd.  Also, I had started a new part time job (more on that later) and they were semi nice about my schedule but I'm paying for it now lol.  Anyhow, on the 21st we decided to drive all the way to Omaha (11 hours)  and stay in a hotel.  We woke up at the crack of dawn just to sit in the waiting room while my bro had surgery which lasted a total of 8 hours... 8 freaking hours, but it was worth the wait because the doctors removed all of his tumors and he will hopefully be released from the hospital tomorrow with 39 new shiny (temporary) staples in his abdomen.
Brother
Thanksgiving.... Well, that was spent driving from Omaha back to Memphis.  Everything was closed on our way back to Memphis so we had Lunchable pizza's and chocolate pudding, how very festive of us lol.  I must admit it will be a Thanksgiving I will always remember.

So I have a part time job now... I was asked to be a leasing agent at the apartment community that I live at (I used to be a leasing agent before I started my own business).  Well their definition of part time and mine are a little different... everyday that I didn't spend driving or was away from Memphis, I have been working!

Anyhow, enuf of my rambling.

Hope you all had an amazing Turkey Day!!

@ Noble

P.S. Happy Birthday Daddy, I miss you every day.

Hello Strangers

Ok, it seem like forever since I've written or read any blogs and I'm having serious withdrawals.  I haven't even looked at twitter or facebook until this evening, I must admit I do love all of my social networking sites but I have been just busy to keep up with them!!  I know after next week my life with clam down and I will get back to blogging as usual.  So please keep me on your reading list, I promise I will be back soon.  But for now I will leave you all with this...

I will be traveling to Nebraska to be with my brother and his family during his surgery on Monday the 22nd.  Please keep him in your thought because he will be having 5 stage 4 cancerous tumors removed from his abdomen area.  The surgery is slated to last about 10 hours and he will have 5 different lead surgeons working on him during this time.  The tumors have attached themselves major organs and arteries and it is a very high risk surgery.  The doctors are some of the best in the country and they have high hopes but I'm still scared for so many reasons... So please, if you are the praying type, pray for him, if you are into luck then send a little his way.  Thank you.

Note to all Technology

Most days technology just gives me a simple "up yours" and I'm ok with that; but today it all has been against me...it is my sworn enemy!!!  I got the idea to write a letter to my technology from one of my favorite blogs to read Airing My Dirty Laundry, One Sock At A Time, so here it goes.

Dear Cell Phone:

I love you, but I hate you!!! You are one of the most amazing phones I've ever had but what's up with dropping my calls, trying to 3 way call the person I'm speaking to without my consent, randomly switching screens, not allowing my hands free to work, refusing to allow the GPS to keep working while I'm in uncharted territory (AKA the fucking GHETTO of Memphis),  putting me on mute/speaker phone just for the hell of it, killing my battery in just a few minutes and overall just being a major pain in my ass today!  When I needed you the most you failed me, so "F" you, you might soon be replaced bitznatch... Gurrr

Dear Mac Computer:

I've had you for 5 years... I gave you life and I can take it away from you as well!  If you don't stop "freezing up", refusing to connect me to the Internet, auto correcting words (I never changed the setting to allow you to do that BTW) and refusing to allow me to get onto blogger.com for hours today I'm going to chuck you off the balcony and watch you break into a million little pieces!  I might even replace you with a P.C.  Yea, you heard me right a P.C.  Word!

Dear Ice-maker:

Just incase you didn't know you are in an apartment... that means if I bitch about you one more time you will be replaced!  Stop making weird ice and odd noises.  Also, when I turn you off, I expect you to stay off... got it?!!!

Dear Dryer:

Please, pretty please, stop making that weird noise and please dry things on the first "dry cycle"  I don't want to replace you... I really don't.  I know you and the washer make a great pair and I would never want to split you guys up. You're like Johnny Cash and June Carter, Bonnie and Clyde, Thelma and Louise, PB&J!

Dear Random technology items at Best Buy:

Best Buy is C's favorite place to shop, so next time I walk into the store and pick up an I pad, camera, and Kindle please ( I beg of you, Please!) don't set off the sensor alarm thingy.  I don't want to steal you!!  I just want to play with you and put you on my Christmas list.  You all make me feel like an ass when the same store worker has to come over to shut off the theft alarm multiple times.  I was practically on a first name basis with the dude.  I think I'm now on Best Buys Most Suspected to Steal Shit List... I'm a good person, I'm married to a cop, I promise you (items) I don't want to steal you, I just want to make sure you are worth the $$$

I hate all technology... C says technology refuses to work in my presence and insist on doing weird things (things that even experts have never seen happen to their precious items before) because I grew up in the country and I drank well water, therefore I have more iron, copper and lead (and other minerals) swimming in my veins which makes me like kryptonite to all electric devices.  Sadly, I'm starting to think he's onto something.

I hope someday I will grow out of this weird funk and technology will like to work with me because I'm open to the relationship.

Product Review

I am a mom to an 8 year old little girl... dog that is!  C is a Memphis Police officer and one rainy night he was on patrol he saw a large cardboard box in the middle of the road.  He pulled over to remove the box from the roadway and when he picked it up he felt the weight shift.  C opened the box and found 5 little puppies, only one was still alive and she was soon named Hershie.  C and I have only been married for 939 days and well, I have taken Hershie over as my dog.  She wasn't allowed to sleep in bed, get on the couch or eat people food... well... all that has changed.  I have spoiled her!!

My little fur baby
Hershie & her favorite rope bone
Anyhow, I could brag about her all day long but I will get to the point of this post.  For a while now Hershie has been chewing on her paws (and no it isn't because she is in desperate need of a grooming appointment), the vet suspects she has a food allergy.  I was seriously considering making all of her meals from human food so I would know exactly what she is eating, but lets face it, C doesn't even get all homemade meals.  So, Halloween weekend we went on a mission to find her the best dog food out there!  After we checked out a few different places we decided to go to PetSmart.  We were back in the "All Natural" dog food section when a sweet lady approached us and started asking us what we wanted out of our dog food.  Well, I must say she either has a great sales pitch or Natural Balance dog food can work miracles... She did give us a doggie bag of their products to test out but C has the "go big or go home" attitude and we walked out of the store with 55 dollars worth of dog food, treats and other goodies.
Doggie Bag
Contents of the Bag, 2 types of dog good, brochure and coupon.
Natures Balance has many different formulas of their products we ended up choosing Venison and Sweet Potato, grain free, limited ingredient diet.  From everything that C & I read and the sales woman told us, this formula should help with her allergies.  By the end of this weekend she will have made the total switch over to Natures Balance food and hopefully within 2 to 4 weeks we will see a difference!  I will keep you all posted if this food is all its cracked to be or not.  Do any of you have additional advice on how to conquer dog allergies?

Because Voting is the New Black

I couldn't wait for my 18th birthday.  I wasn't looking forward to finally being able drive with an unrestricted drivers license or to gamble (in MI it's legal to gamble on Indian reservations at 18) or to buy cigarettes (let's face it, I had been doing that for a while lol).  I didn't even seem to care that it was the year I would to be graduating... I was finally able to VOTE!

At this point in history it wasn't "cool" to be a registered voter.  There was no "rock the vote" sponsored by MTV.  The movie stars weren't out politicking for their favorite candidate... There was just the same old mud slinging adds running on T.V. and the voting booth.  That being said, I still couldn't wait to cast my first ballot which would be in the presidential election between Gorge W and that guy who invented the Internet... what's his name... Oh-yeah Al Gore.  What an election it was ending in a supreme court ruling and all.

Now many years later, as usual, the 2nd Tuesday in November is looming upon us and it's time to vote again.  Not for the president but for our governor, senator, and other local reps. So do your research, get out there and  vote... if you aren't the voting type, please don't complain to me about the government because I won't take your complaints seriously.  Also if you are tying to be elected to anything please don't have a name like Cookie, Shanaynay or Demontravius because I won't take you seriously either.

I'm feeling crafty

I love being my own boss and getting paid for something that I would gladly do for free.  Like most everything my job has a busy season and a slower season... My schedule has slowed down a bit and I find myself becoming a stay at home mom but without the kids and all.  That being said, I decided to make cookies for C to take to work (I'm a total suck up! He was appointed to his current job position, so as long as he is on every higher ups good side that means he stays where he's at.).  I'm clearly NOT Susie homemaker but here's a glimpse at my little crafty cookie project. Bon Appetite!

I felt a wee bit like Paula Dean when I dropped 2 cups of butter into my mixing bowl... I can already feel my heart ceasing up.

There is a whole lotta health in that bowl!  Btw I got the recipe from HERE...

The weird shape to the right is the word "Boo"

I think I made total 52 cookies... Ay Crumba!

I had a few cookie casualties... Mostly the damn bat wings kept breaking off and I wanted to see what they tasted like, so I ate part of a pumpkin

Finished Product

I know they look like they were decorated by a 2nd grader but I was getting tired!
If these cookies don't score some points with the boss, I don't know what will!

Support the Youth

About 3 to 4 times a year my 3 nieces send me booklets to buy something to support their school.  So far this school year I have renewed my magazine subscriptions, bought some cute Paula Dean kitchen items and just recently it was time to buy cookies.  C is trying to get in shape/loose some weigh and I'm just trying not to eat every piece of junk food in sight!  So this year I decided to support them in a different way... a way that would keep on giving.  I decided that each of my nieces should pick out what type of cookie dough they would like and I would buy it for them. The day cookie dough arrived at their school the kids were half cracked out on raw cookie dough before they got home and for the next week or so they would continue their sugar high/sugar crashes.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies
So here's to you Brother!!  While your girls are running wild on sugar I want you to remembered how much I hated it when you tied me to the tree, convinced me I wasn't playing in poison ivy when I really was, embarrassed me in front of your/my friends, made me watch scary movie, shoved me in the pool with all my clothes on and just over all was a typical big brother.  Enjoy the cookies :-)

P.S. Brother, what do your kids want for Christmas... choose wisely lol

Silver Lining...

I started blogging so I could get my mind off of some things... but when it comes to actually writing down what's bothering me I'm terrified.  It's like if I actually type the words out that are in my head & heart it means they are true and I'm just not ready to face that yet.  But every time I sit down to write, the words I'm so afraid of are the only ones that come to mind.  So here it goes...

April 18, 2010 will forever be a day that I remember... the 18th of every month is just another dagger into my oh so tender heart.  It's just a reminder that another month has gone by.  Another month that I don't have my dad.  My dad was one of my best friends.  He and I talked nearly every day.  We have always had a strong bond, I was always "daddy's little girl"  But he was taken away from me too quickly... I'm only 25 I still need my father.  We aren't sure if it was the Cancer or the surgery that took him from us but all I know is that there is a hole in my heart that I wish wasn't there.  I wasn't raised in a religious home, but what faith I had has been stripped away.... I long for it to come back but I'm not there yet.  I'm still so confused, mad and hurting.... Tears fall from my eyes every day, when will the death of my father stop hurting so bad? God hasn't been able to answer that question yet... Will he ever?

Dad & Mom
My parents would have been married 43 years this December and they had so many plans, so much more life to live with each other.... People say every cloud has a silver lining, well if this could ever be consider a positive, it's that my 29 year old brother (military man, husband, father of 3 girls) came home for the memorial service.  He was complaining that his back/stomach has been hurting him again.  He had been to the doctors on base for months on end, they just kept giving him steroid shots in his back and kept sending him on his way.  While he was home, my mom finally made him go to the hospital... 4 hours later we found out that he has stage 4 stomach cancer.  He had previously had testicular cancer and doctors said that his cancer may have spread to his stomach from his operation to remove his testicular cancer.  He is currently undergoing chemo and radiation treatments and may have surgery in mid November.  He is so sick all the time and it breaks my heart that my 7 year old niece has to see her daddy that way because she is starting to learn what a beast cancer can be.

All I know is that I'm not ready to loose another family member to cancer... this isn't the first time.  My grandfather had brain cancer and he died within a month from being diagnosed, my cousin fought and won breast cancer, but my great aunt wasn't so lucky with her battle.  From a very young age whenever I heard the word cancer I knew it to be bad and well, it hasn't proven to be anything different... I'm really searching for that silver lining...

Just thought you should know

Americans watch more television than any other country (we watch on average of 151 hours a month!). Also we have the highest percent of reality t.v. programs...  I do love to watch t.v. but there are times my body screams at me to unglue my eyes from the screen, get my booty off the couch and actually exercise my brain that is quickly turning to M-U-S-H from the t.v. overload. Occasionally I listen and go read a book.  I have fallen in love with the New York Times best selling author Jen Lancaster. She writes memoirs, so when reading her books, it's practically like watching reality t.v. (because if you aren't watching t.v. you are practically Un-American right?)  I have all 5 of her books and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of her 6th!  She is a brutally honest, lacoste & pearl necklace wearing, absolutely hilarious writer!!  So, any of you that are interested in exercising your brain and getting a big laugh, I suggest you pick up one of her books here or head to your local book store.  Also, you should read them in order... once you start reading her books you will understand why.

So, what are some of your favorite books and/or authors?  I will share more of my favorites next week!!

I had a plan for this weekend... funny thing about me and plans... they never actually go as planned, which inadvertently should be planned on. Ya dig?

Soooo..... C and I were going to wake up no later than 7am (that's 3 extra hours of sleep), get around and head up to C's office so he could finish a huge report that is due Monday.  Then we were going to get our tickets for the hockey game later that night, swing by Bed Bath & Beyond, Target and back to the Apt to get ready for the game.  All that seems semi simple right?  Not so much. . .
Friday night we went to sleep around 9:30 pm (still on plan).  I woke up at 3:54 (as normal) but remembered it was Saturday and I got to sleep in.  Went back to sleep... C woke up a little while later and HOLY CATS it's 9:30am!!

Me: Didn't you set an alarm??!?!

C: Why would I set an alarm, it's not like I thought we would sleep 12 hours.

Me: HA! Well... we did, now what?

C: Dunno

Me: Do you still want to get into the office, or is it too late?

C:  It's too late... I'm gonna walk Hershie (our awesome doggie), think about what you want for breakfast.

Me: Ok, have a nice walk.

As soon as C left, I went to my computer and started reading blogs (I need AA for my blog, twitter & Huffington post addiction).  When he came in we made breakfast and watched the history channel.  We love the show "How it's Made" which was made very apparent because there was a damn 2 hour marathon on and we watched all of it.  Now it's 12:30pm (CRAP!!)  I wanted to do the dishes before we got around because I'm spazzy that way.  I had to unload the dishwasher first, which I hate to do, so I recruited C to help me.  Somehow C decided we needed more rinse aid, which we didn't because I just filled it up.  Did he listen?? NOPE, he decided to ignore the "full line" and just keep on pouring the rise aid in.  I love the chance to say "I told you so" (it doesn't happen very often) and I could feel the words bubbling up on the tip of my tongue because I knew I was right....

BAH! I TOLD YOU SO!!
We finally left the house around 2:30pm, picked up our tickets and went to BB&B and came home. We made it to the hockey game and it was great, unfortunately the River Kings lost.

A little pre-game fun
Go River Kings
We finally went to bed on Saturday around 11:30pm and can you guess what time the alarm went off today... 7 Fricken AM!!!! Gurrr... I wasn't very happy.  Oh yea, btw we didn't do anything all morning.  Around noon we went up to C's office so he could email the report to himself so he could work on it at home.  We did however go grocery shopping and eat way to much delicious food at the Blue Monkey.

Can any of you guess what C is doing while I type this post at 8:40 pm ????  His report.  So clearly getting up at 7 was payback for me trying to plan something and saying I told you so.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend!
